USF men’s soccer faces former AAC foe UCF in new 2024 schedule

USF men’s soccer is set to play against ranked teams such as Hofstra and former rival UCF in its new 2024 schedule released on Monday.

Both teams are ranked on the United Soccer Coaches Men’s Top 25 Poll, compiled by the largest soccer coaches organization in the world. Hofstra is currently ranked 17th, while UCF is ranked 19th on the poll.

Last season, USF got to the second round of the NCAA tournament under the leadership of coach Bob Butehorn, but was defeated by Memphis. The Bulls had an overall record of 6-9-1.

Butehorn, whose contract was extended through the 2025 season in 2023, will be looking to build up from last season’s efforts with this new schedule.

The season kicks off with three exhibition matches against Eastern Florida State College on Aug. 8, Southeastern on Aug. 12 and Georgia Southern on Aug. 17 – all to be played at USF’s men’s soccer’s home ground, Corbett Stadium.

The Bulls will face four conference teams at home – FIU, Temple, Memphis and Tulsa. They will be going away to face American Athletic Conference foes Charlotte, FAU and UAB.

The regular season begins away from home on Aug. 22 against Seattle. The Bulls, who played the Redhawks last season in a 2-0 loss, will have a shot at redemption in Seattle, Washington.

South Florida will play the next two scheduled games at home against Mercer – another familiar opponent from last season – and Eckerd College on Aug. 25 and 29, respectively. This will be USF’s first matchup against Eckerd since 1986.

The Bulls are set to hit the road to North Carolina and play UNC-Wilmington on Sept. 2. The game will be followed by two matchups on home soil against FGCU on Sept. 6 and UC Irvine on Sept. 9.

South Florida’s seventh game of the regular season will see it play on away ground against UCF on Sept. 15. 

UCF is ranked 19th on the United Soccer Coaches Men’s Top 25 Poll and is a former rival of USF in the American Athletic Conference. UCF suffered a 2-0 loss against USF in an exhibition match last season.

The Bulls will come back to Corbett Stadium to face FIU on Sept. 20, before going head-to-head against Charlotte on Sept. 27.

Following that, USF will have two home bouts against Temple on Oct. 5 and Stetson on Oct. 8. USF played both teams last season, obtaining its only tie of the season against Temple and triumphing 3-2 against Stetson.

USF’s next and second-to-last away game takes place in Boca Raton, Florida. where the Bulls will face FAU on Oct. 11.

Rounding out USF men’s soccer’s home games are matchups against Memphis on Oct. 18, Hofstra on Oct. 22 and Tulsa on Oct. 26. 

 Hofstra is currently ranked 17th in the United Soccer Coaches Men’s Top 25 Poll, making them USF’s second ranked opponent of the season.

The Bulls’ final game of the regular season takes place against UAB on Nov. 1, where they will take on a final roadtrip to Birmingham, Alabama to conclude the schedule.
