No. 10 Rutgers (10-2, 2-0) at USF (11-4, 1-1)
When: Tonight, 7
Where: Sun Dome
TV/Radio: None, 570 AM
The story: The Bulls host another ranked conference opponent tonight in No. 10 Rutgers. Last year, the Scarlet Knights won their first Big East regular-season title and made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. This season, Rutgers is off to a 10-2 start, even though it has played 10 of 12 games away from home.
Much like USF, the Scarlet Knights have had big wins and close losses this season. On Dec. 30, Rutgers defeated No. 19 Texas 63-49, but dropped a close game to No. 13 Michigan State 73-71 on Sunday. The Bulls are familiar with close games, having lost to Pittsburgh 66-64 on Sunday. USF has had trouble with Top 10-ranked opponents this season, losing to No. 3 LSU, No. 4 North Carolina and No. 9 Michigan State, averaging 52.4 points against those teams.
Keep an eye on: Cappie Pondexter. The senior guard is averaging 21.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game this season. No stranger to accolades, Pondexter was chosen as the Big East Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year. She also has her own Web site, www.cappie25.com.
