Men’s tennis looks to stay perfect against FSU
The USF men’s tennis team (1-0) travels to Tallahassee on Sunday to play another undefeated squad – the Florida State University Seminoles (4-0).
The Bulls are coming off of an upset over then-No.32 Rice. USF coach Don Barr feels his team has an opportunity to continue the season with another big win.
“I think we matchup with them really well. I really do,” Barr said. “We just have to go out and fight for every point the way we did against Rice. If we can do that, we have a good opportunity to come out of there with a win.”
The Bulls are playing well while learning to adjust to their new team. There are three new players seeing action on the court for the Bulls this season. Led by the one-two tandem of senior Mahmoud Hamed and Thomas Estrada, USF has begun to gel on the court.
“I think everybody is playing well, and adjusting well,” Barr said. “There is a learning curve, but as long as everyone keeps playing well, our team will continue to climb.”
The Bulls are beginning to creep up the national rankings – in large part because of their victory over Rice. Even though his team has not cracked the nation’s Top 25, Barr wants it to remain focused on the present.
“The main thing for the players to realize is that there is a long way to go,” Barr said. “We need to stay focused, because we could fall from grace really quickly. We just have to take every team and every opponent seriously.”
