KU blanks tennis team
The 38th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks defeated the USF women’s tennis team 7-0 Wednesday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls (4-9) managed to wrestle the No. 3 doubles match when Ashlee Callahan and Jackie Spicijaric defeated KU’s Aurelie Bejar and Cheryl Mallaiah 9-8 (9-7). It would be the lone taste of victory on the day for USF, as the Jayhawks (8-3) won the other two doubles matches and all six singles matches.
The match pitted two teams heading in opposite directions. Kansas won its fifth straight match, while USF has lost five of its last six matches. Jennifer Sinclair had the Bulls’ best match, pushing KU’s Emily Haylock to a third set at No. 2. Sinclair won the first set 7-5, but Haylock countered by taking the second set 6-3 and the third set tiebreaker 10-7.
Other singles action saw Genevieve Houle fall 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 to Mallaiah and KU’s Courtney Steinbock breezed past Callahan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
The Bulls continue Friday against Northern Iowa in the second game of a season-ending six game homestand.
