Stetson stuffs Bulls
The USF baseball team’s bats were held at bay Tuesday, when Stetson beat the Bulls 7-1 in DeLand. USF, which has now lost seven straight, was unable to get any sort of offense going.
Stetson’s starting pitcher John DeStefano, who threw his first complete game Tuesday, allowed only one run off five hits on his way to his fourth win this season. DeStefano struck out six while walking one.
Stetson struck first, scoring four runs in the first inning. Two of those runs came as a result of two wild pitches from junior righthander Jeremy Fortner. Two more runs were scored with a slew of singles.
Stetson went on to score three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before USF answered back in ninth with a run of their own. The run was scored when junior Myron Leslie singled, allowing designated hitter Kris Howell to score from second.
Tuesday marked the third time USF lost to Stetson this season, two earlier losses came at Red McEwen Field.
USF will conclude its regular season this weekend against Memphis when they play a three game conference series Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Bulls must beat the Tigers once this weekend to secure a place in the Conference USA Tournament.
