Students should plan ahead when it comes to sending gifts
It’s nearly December: the month of gift giving and the United States Postal Service’s busiest time of the year.
Barbra Dennison, supervisor of the USF Post Office’s Contract Station, suggests getting to the post office early to beat the rush.
“We open at 9 (a.m.), and the best time is as early as possible,” she said.
The USF’s Post Office’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. According to Dennison, the last hour of business is the busiest.
Those who don’t wish to go to the post office can use free package pickup. Senders can schedule a home pickup at no extra charge online at the Postal Service’s Web site, www.usps.com.
Due to the high volume of mail sent during the month of December, gifts sent can take an extra day or two to arrive.
“Regular mail, which is priority, usually takes two to three days, but the fact the postal service is handling more packages during that time … you can probably add a day or two on to that, depending on the distance which it is going,” Dennison said.
She also suggests insuring packages, which provides security and covers up to $5,000 in damage protection.
The USF Post Office will be closed Dec. 22 and 25.
