Bulls to host ‘Sweet Sixteen’ game
The USF men’s soccer team plays its final home game of the season Sunday, as it hosts New Mexico in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
The No. 7-seeded Bulls (13-3-3) will meet the No. 10-seeded Lobos (18-0-3) after both advanced courtesy of 2-1 overtime victories in the second round. USF beat UCF, while New Mexico edged Duke.
Led by junior goalkeeper Victor Rodriguez, who has played 21 games this season, the Lobos have allowed just 12 goals all season and are the only undefeated team in the nation.
USF has a strong goalkeeper of its own in Chris Blais, who was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Monday after recording five saves in the win over the Knights.
Freshman midfielder Wesley Charpie, who scored the game-winning overtime goal, also received national recognition, being named to the topdrawersoccer.com Team of the Week.
Admission to the game will be free to all, courtesy of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Corbett Soccer Stadium.
