Atwood visits USF
Award-winning author Margaret Atwood will kick off a busy month for the University Lecture Series when she visits the Special Events Center tonight at 8.
Atwood, who recently released her novel Oryx and Crake, has written over 25 novels, according to the Random House Web site devoted to Atwood.
Atwood, an Ottawa native, has published works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, according to Random House.
“I hadn’t planned to begin another novel so soon after the previous one,” Atwood said in a published essay describing the process of writing Oryx and Crake.
“I’d thought I might take some time off, write a few short pieces, clean out the cellar. But when a story appears to you with such insistence you can’t postpone it.”
Amazon.com describes Oryx and Crake as a cautionary tale about a horrific future in which bioengineering has gone wrong.
The event is free and open to the public. Atwood will be available for a question-and-answer session following the lecture.
“The audience will be able to share with a major novelist her creative process and will be able to hear about writing,” wrote Bill Scheuerle, director of the USF Humanities Institute, in an e-mail.
