Man arrested for ’68 hijacking of flight from NY
NEW YORK – Federal officials say a man wanted for hijacking a 1968 flight out of New York to Cuba has been apprehended.
Federal authorities took longtime fugitive Luis Armando Pena Soltren into custody Sunday for his role in the Nov. 24, 1968, hijacking of Pan American Flight 281 out of New York. The flight bound for San Juan, Puerto Rico, was diverted to Havana, Cuba.
Soltren was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the same airport where authorities say he and accomplices boarded the Pan American flight and hijacked it armed with guns and knives.
Soltren is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Manhattan on charges from the 1968 indictment.
