Congratulations, MGMT, you failed

MGMT’s sophomore album, “Congratulations,” may not be what fans are expecting – it might even be disappointing.

The album – set to release on April 13 – leaked unexpectedly online Saturday. The band has since posted the album on its Web site.

It’s unfortunate and almost upsetting that the Brooklyn-based group probably won’t have the same luck with this album as they had with their debut, “Oracular Spectacular,” which features a collection of electronic, retro-style songs like “Kids” and “Time to Pretend.”

Their newest creation leaves a lot to be desired.

The album’s first single, “Flash Delirium,” has received a lot of negative feedback for reasons that seem quite obvious even after a quick listen. The only redeemable song is the follow up track, “I Found a Whistle.”

Perhaps the heightened publicity the album is receiving – though it may be undeserved – is a direct result of its premature release.
