Jolly becomes second Floridian selected to sailing HOF
USF sailing coach Allison Jolly is set to join good company.
Jolly will be inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, on Nov. 9.
A native of St. Petersburg, Jolly becomes the second Floridian and fifth woman ever inducted into the hall of fame.
“I am extremely humbled and honored to be placed in the company of so many men and women for which I have such enormous respect and that have had a tremendous impact on the great sport of sailing,” Jolly said in a statement. “I am proud to represent the strong sailing tradition of the city of St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area, and am blessed that sailing has been such an integral and much-loved part of my life from a very young age.”
Alongside her crew, Lynne Jewell, Jolly was the first female skipper to win Olympic gold in sailing in history, placing first in the 1988 Seoul Games.
Jolly, who has led USF to nationals 12 years in a row, was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and to date remains the only sailor in the Floridian hall.
