Akec became the sixth USF men’s basketball player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, as guards David Collins, Xavier Castañeda and Rashun Williams, as well as forwards Justin Brown and Luke Anderson have already hit the portal.
In two seasons with the Bulls, Akec averaged 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds while playing 9.1 minutes per game. He also shot 36.7% from three-point range on just under one attempt per contest.
Coach Brian Gregory now has at least six slots to fill on his team before the start of next season, whether that be through transfers or incoming student-athletes from high school.
While the transfer portal has been busy for the Bulls, it’s not exclusive to just them. There are currently 596 transfers from the 2021 season that have either found a new program to play for or are still looking for one as of March 17, according to Verbal Commits. That number could rise after the conclusion of the NCAA tournament.
