The Claw, USF’s golf course located on N 46th St., had its last day of operations on Monday. Its closure was a result of financial loss and instability, and the course’s deteriorating conditions were deemed too costly to repair by the university, according to President Rhea Law’s universitywide email sent June 29.
Originally designed by golf course architect William F. Mitchell, the course – which went by the name of Brahman at the time – opened to the public on Oct. 2, 1967. Here’s a look back on The Claw’s history at USF through the eyes of The Oracle.
